Sick Kids charity holiday cards - pretty and purpose-driven!
Tis the season! For folks that use holiday cards, is anyone else a little underwhelmed by the charity cards that are available? I receive stacks and stacks of cards from various charities that I. Just. Can't. Use. And therefore won’t purchase.
But I love the idea behind the cards: from the perspective of the consumer, it’s social purpose-driven purchasing of items they will use; and from the POV of the charity, a way to raise funds for their work. What I don’t love is that the cards are poorly designed, sent to me with unrecyclable stickers, plastic totes, and the whole thing is so wasteful and environmentally unfriendly. Sadly, I'm not sure who the cards are designed to appeal to, but they certainly do not appeal to any demographic that I know of.
I’ve successfully found a few charity cards in the past that actually appealed to me aesthetically, from Ten Thousand Villages (RIP) and UNICEF (depending on that year’s design, it changes frequently).
And this year I am happy to have discovered the Sick Kids cards! Not only do they stock good-looking cards, but they also have printed and e-card versions!
What do you think? How do you feel about charity cards? Do you know of other well designed card options?
And if it turns out that both charities and consumers are interested in having more options for better looking holiday and greeting cards, Idea Mill might just build something up for next year :)
